Looking back to Kennet’s 2023 Season

2023 was Kennet’s first full season for many years. It started with Kennet celebrating the 250th Aniversary of the first boats to carry goods on the Leeds & Liverpool Canal between Bingley and Skipton.

On leaving Skipton Kennet ventured onto the Bridgewater Canal to take part in the annual “Fed Rally” at Worsley Cruising Club. This Rally at different boat clubs on the Bridgewater Canal each year.

After a very successful weekend Kennet returned to Wigan as she was invited by the Canal & River Trust to take part in the unveiling of the Red Wheel plaque to recognise and commemorate the Wigan Flight and open for the invited guests.

Kennet’s next port of call was to open up to the public in Burscough to co-inside with the Burscough raft race. This proved to be a weekend of mixed success due to inclement weather.

The last event was Kennet attending the Crooke Beer, Boat & Music Festival using a Crooke Cruising Club mooring. This proved to be a successful weekend for Kennet along with our volunteers enjoying themselves to finish the season!!

However Kennet was unable to return to her home mooring at Greenberfield until early 2024. This was firstly due to the stoppage at Wigan locks and then stopping at Rose Grove until the stoppage at the west side of Foulridge Tunnel was opened.
