Explore Kennet on the Leeds & Liverpool Canal

The Society’s attendance at the Saltaire Festival last September provided the first opportunity to open Kennet to the public for two years. It also gave us the opportunity to complete the filming of our ‘lockdown video’ A Voyage of Discovery.

This is now available to view on our new YouTube channel along with other videos relative to the Society and Kennet.

The 20-minute video can be viewed in full or as three separate ‘tales’. Part 1 introduces Kennet and some of the Society members that operate it; and looks at the historical importance of commercial transport on the Leeds & Liverpool Canal. Part 2 takes you inside Kennet and provides some more information on the Canal and on the people that worked commercial freight. Part 3 provides some information on the Leeds and Liverpool Canal Society and its use of Kennet at canal festivals and open days along the Canal.
The Video was made possible by the award of a Heritage Emergency Fund grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund and was produced for the Society by Scott Dawson Advertising.
